Mînzăleşti commune, located in the upper area of the Slănic basin, at the contact between the mountains and the Vrancea Subcarpathians, is characterized by a relief developed on the salt, with varied shapes and large sizes. Its main area is found in the Pîrîului Jgheabu basin, a tributary of the Slănic, a protected area according to Law 9/1973. Access to this salt complex is from Buzău, on the county road to Lopătari.
The impressive landscape includes single or twin sinkholes, avens and richly decorated caves carved out of salt. Oval or round depressions, some covered with water or hydrophilic vegetation, are present in this picturesque setting. The most notable lakes are those formed in extensive depressions, called uvalas, which include Great Lake and Castle Lake.
In addition to these, numerous caves and vegetation specific to saline areas, including plant species adapted to salty soil, can be found on the Selenary Plateau.
