Mănăstirea Mraconia

The Mraconia Monastery is located in the commune of Dubova in Mehedinți County, 15 km west of the city of Orșova. It is located on the left bank of the Danube, where the river forms the most beautiful gorge on its course, a gorge that stretches between Orșova and Moldova Nouă.

The Mraconia Monastery is placed under the protection of the Most Holy Trinity and the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel. After 1989, the Metropolis of Oltenia had the initiative to re-establish the Mraconia Monastery.

In 1993, the foundation stone of the new church was laid, and in 1995, with the blessing of H.P.S. Nestor Vornicescu, Archbishop of Craiova and Metropolitan of Oltenia, and with the approval of the Holy Synod, this establishment was re-established. The consecration service of the Mraconia monastery church took place on August 18, 2013, in which three hierarchs participated: His Holiness Father Irineu, the Archbishop of Craiova and the Metropolitan of Oltenia, His Holiness Father Lucian, the Bishop of Caransebeș, and His Holiness Father Nicodim, the Bishop of Severin and Strehaia.
