Also known as Baia Comună, Baia cea Mare, Baia de sindilă, Baia Ludovic, Baia Ileana, Baia Crişan, the spa is located in the Historic Imperial Center (Hercules Square), at the north-eastern end of the Apollo Hotel towards the Roman Church  catholic.

It is one of the first bathrooms built in the resort during the Roman development period of the resort.  In the Austrian map from 1774, the Roman baths and a temple dedicated to Hercules are marked where Roman antiquities were discovered between 1724 and 1737.

The Romans used both the thermal water of the bath's own spring and the thermal water brought through the aqueduct from one of the springs near the Roman Bath.  In 1724, the common bathroom was built next to the barracks building.  During the war with the Turks from 1737 -1739, it was burned by the Turks and rebuilt between 1758 - 1760, changing its name to Baia cea Mare.  In 1792, after it was rebuilt and covered with shingles, it changed its name again to the Shingle Bath.

It was built in its current form, in 1846, being rebuilt in 1866 and modernized in 1970. The Apollo bathroom communicated internally with Pavilion 4 and, until the last world war, through an underground tunnel, under the street, with Pavilion 5.  It was equipped with three cooling basins, 32 cabins and three white and red marble baths, one each for men, women and soldiers.
